Hunting Coyotes and other Predators in Michigan can be challenging to say the least. Here are a few tips to help your odds.
1. Know the Coyote: Learn as much as you can about the Coyote. Knowing the ways of the Coyote will increase your odds. Learn where Coyotes like to be and when they are there.
2. Scout scout scout: You must first find the Coyotes in order to be able to call one in. Sounds simple, but many hunters waist valuble time hunting areas without any Predators.
3. Watch the wind: The Coyote’s nose is it’s greatest defense.. Coyotes tend to circle down wind so they can smell what they are hearing, be aware of this on every stand. If you have a partner always set the caller up wind so a circling Coyote will circle to the other shooter.
4. Be ready: Often times Coyotes will charge in hard and fast, be ready for the shot since the window will most likely be short. A pair of shooting sticks is a good tool to have to keep your firearm in ready posistion.
5. Stay on stand at least 30 minutes: Sometimes it takes a while before the Predator commits to the call, if you leave your set-up too early you may miss out on an incoming Coyote(s).
